Seeing the FIAT 500 Abarth on a closed race track is always exciting. As we arrived early morning in Austin, Texas, we were greeted by the growl of the Abarth exhaust note. The video crew was setting up. The drivers were hugging turns and fine tuning their driving lines. That wonderful smell of asphalt and rubber filled the air. It was a scene that felt familiar, but little by little, it became clear that something new had arrived.
These were no ordinary drivers. These were international racing superstars behind the wheel.
This was no ordinary FIAT 500 Abarth, either. These scorpions had rolled down their windows…and their rag top.
Scuderia Ferrari drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, were testing the FIAT 500 Abarth Cabrio in anticipation of its North American debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.
